Former UFC light heavyweight contender Anthony Smith commented on one of the most talked about moments of the recent UFC on ESPN 11 tournament, when lightweight Max Roscopf refused to continue the fight with Austin Hubbard during the break between rounds, but his coach began to persuade his ward to return to the fight.
“Of course, I’m a little disappointed. The most disappointing was the reaction of the fighters and fans. I understand that the guy is young and probably had difficulties for the first time in his career. Maybe he thinks he won’t work out and he needs support, but he asked to stop the fight 9 times! It’s not a bloody Bloody Sport.
Not all of us think alike. Not everyone thinks like me. This is a different situation. He is a young kid, and he wanted to leave the cage. So let it out of there fucking! He wanted to go home. He said that nothing would come of it. He said that he no longer wants to continue. This is not the case when you are discouraged and you need encouragement. I respect Drysdale (Roscopf’s trainer – Ed.) As much as anyone else in this game. But he screwed up, “said Smith.
